Satin is a fabric that typically has a glossy surface and a dull back, one of three fundamental types of textile weaves along with plain weave and twill. The satin weave is characterized by four or more fill or weft yarns floating over a warp yarn, four warp yarns floating over a single weft yarn. Floats are missed interfacing, for example where the warp yarn lies on top of the weft in a warp-faced satin. These floats explain the high luster and even sheen, as unlike in other weaves, the light reflecting is not scattered as much by the fibers.
Hera Brides most frequently uses the following satin's for our standard dresses. Other versions are available upon request and for an additional fee. Please email DesignTeam@HeraBrides.com to speak to our design team and to request a specialty swatch.
- Messaline is lightweight and loosely woven.
- Polysatin or poly-satin is an abbreviated term for polyester satin.
- Slipper satin is stiff and medium- to heavy-weight fabric.

Choosing the right fabric for your dress:
When ordering a dress online, we believe it's crucial to see and feel the fabric that will be used for your dress. Although white and Ivory seem like basic colors, they may look different on your monitor or screen than they will in person, also, many people mistake ivory for cream. Therefore, we highly recommend ordering swatches to ensure your dress is as perfect as you expect it to be. This also helps ensure your dress will match accessories like veil and shoes.
If you're unfamiliar with the basic bridal fabrics we offer free samples (you pay $2 shipping only) in standard colors. You can order swatches by clicking the appropriate swatch and color for your dress. below. The most common fabrics are tulle, satin, and chiffon. Although, because we source our fabrics, laces, and embellishments from around the world we're able to use just about any fabric you can imagine. If you are looking for something outside of the standard fabrics used, please speak with your designer to obtain samples.
Due to space restrictions, we are unable to stock all colors beyond the basics. So, colored samples may take a few extra days. If you can't find the color you're looking for not to worry, for an additional fee, our dye team is able to create just about any color you can imagine, but keep in mind, custom dyed fabrics will add an additional 14-days to production time so be sure to order far enough ahead.
